Health and Safety

We are making the antagonist use several dangerous objects to strongly highlight the element of danger and to intimidate the audience. These items are:

A shovel, a penknife and a pair of scissors - similar items all shown above.

The scissors will be used in the opening shots to show the antagonist cutting up news paper articles and pictures of teenage girls. We will make sure that we use the scissors properly as to not cut ourselves and after filming we will not carry them round with us as we are filming at home.

The shovel will be used to show the villain digging a hole to bury the suitcase, it will be carried in the chase scene to highlight that he is out to get Carla, therefore building tension and it will be used one more time to give the effect that the runner has been hit by it. We will make sure in the chase scene that the shovel will be held properly so that it doesn't cause Harrison to trip on it, hit anyone or get it caught on anything. Obviously for the ending shot Carla will not actually but hit by the shovel. This is because we are going to do it from a blurred point of view shot. This shovel will be lowered near to the camera lens as to give the impression that she has been hit by it, therefore Carla will not be in any actual danger.

The penknife will be used to engrave a tally into a tree to show how many girls that the antagonist has killed. We will make sure to not have our fingers anywhere near the blade and will make sure that everyone is aware that we are using the knife so that no one pushes or has a joke whilst it is in use. We are also using a penknife instead of a real knife. This is so that we can fold it up safety and put it in a pocket so that it cannot cause us any harm.

Even though there is no apparent danger we will still take general care around the filming sites. This will include checking the area to make sure that there are no dangerous objects, making sure that we don't film from dangerous places and also not leave one person in the woods with all of the filming equipment and props. We will be sure to take a small medical kit with us just in case there are any unlikely accidents whilst using the props.

Before we film Carla running and also the chase and fall scene with Harrison and Carla we will check the paths to make sure they are clear to run on. We will clear them to make sure that there are no big rocks or pieces of wood which may be dangerous as they could trip on them. The fall scene will be shot at a place where there is soft earth so that it doesn't hurt Carla when she hits the ground. We will also be sure to clear this area of any sharp or hard objects.

With the cold weather we will also be sure to bring extra clothing (especially Carla, who will be wearing shorts and a t-shirt). This will prevent anyone becoming too cold and getting ill.
